What is Mashape?

Mashape is a Dead Simple Mashup Engine that enables people to create applications; without coding and in real time "almost".

Well, Mashape is a web platform that has two sides, one is developers, the other one is publishers:

DEVELOPERS: Third party developers can build any kind of web apps in PHP (Alpha), Ruby or Python and store it on our cloud. Those apps are natively interoperable to other applications (even created by other developers) inside the platform. Developers have a rapid integration environment where can grab those others applications and import instantly in theirs, even if applications are written in different languages.

PUBLISHERS (not available in the Alpha version): The platform gives the easiest way to create new applications "mashapes" which then can be used directly via Mashape (as a SaaS, business scenario) or launched into websites, blog, facebook or any web platform that allows to embed an HTML script (as a Widget, consumer scenario).

So, it's a kind of market-place?

The scenario provides a market-place where publishers (normal people/small businesses) can quickly assembling two ore more of those applications (developed by third-party programmers) to create a new one for their needs or for rapid prototyping. Developers may put a price on theirs applications.

What is a "mashape"?

All applications on this platform are generally called mashapes. In this case is not referred to Mashape as the platform but mashape as a web application created by developers; a mashape = application.

What is a "shape"?

Generally one application "mashape" is composed by one or many small part of software. Thus, one mashape is composed by one or more shapes. Sometimes you can directly use the shape instead of using the entire mashape; a shape = a part of an application.

Our main domain is www.mashape.com, but we have also a www.mashape.net and www.mashape.org; those two are simple redirects to the main one.

We are currently in an Alpha test cycle to improve the service as much as possible. In the meantime you can request an alpha invite.

Who they are?

Are those who have programming skills to build web applications. They are our Soul, just because these people are behind every apps that you use on Mashape. Could be an Individual, Open Source Communities or even a company like ISV or Small Apps Vendors.

We have dedicated an entire environment to spread the creativity, you can start exploring at: http://developer.mashape.com.

How do I get paid?

We are developing a basic billing systems on which you can sell your applications to publishers or other developers who need to implement your app "mashape" in their project. You can decide to put a price on your app, per user, per month or even queries per day. You will be paid via Paypal or Bank Account (Only US).

What is a "mashape" for a developer?

A mashape is a container that contains one, two or more shapes.

What is a "shape" for a developer?

A shape can be a stand-alone web application or be ready to be implemented by others shape. It's a logic block that can be functional or visual; (i.e it generates simple HTML code to allow an easy integration wherever you want). Both of them can have parameters and generate result values.

What is the MashCloud?

The MashCloud is the Mashape cloud computing infrastructure on which all applications are stored and run. Deploy any web app "mashape" instantly with a simple click.

Is the MashCloud Free?

Yes, for now you can store your applications "mashapes" on our free cloud.

How many languages?

During this first release of the Alpha you can code your application only in PHP, but we are working to support Ruby and Python as well.

Who they are?

Are those who simply want to use an application "mashape" for their needs on the go. They are Blooger, Website owner if they want to implement the mashape inside blog or website to attract more users and give them more interaction and entertainment. They are Businesses if they want to implement the mashape inside their companies to increase the productivity and save time and cost for your team. Obviously could be a Developer as well.
